Mayo Gaels 0-12 Belmullet 1-7

Our intermediate team got a much needed league win when they overcame Belmullet at a sunny Abbey Park on Saturday evening. The Gaels dominated the opening half and with scores by Adam Gallagher, Mallie Byrne and Martin Connor they lead 0-9 to 0-2 at halftime. Neil McGurrin was harshly red carded during the first half which meant the Gaels played three quarters of the game with fourteen men. The third quarter was an even affair with the Gaels maintaining a six point lead 0-10 to 0-4. Belmullet had their purple patch in the closing quarter hitting 1-3 to a solitary reply from the Gaels to leave the minimum between the sides. Belmullet threatened to steal the points in the closing minutes but resolute Gaels defending kept them at bay. A Joe Walsh point sealed the points for the home side on a final score of Mayo Gaels 0-12 Belmullet 1-7. The sides will renew rivalries in the championship in two weeks time in Belmullet. Best for the Gaels were Noel Quinn, Anthony Byrne, Fintan Canavan, Joe Walsh, Mallie Byrne and Adam Gallagher.
