U14's survive tough test in first round of Championship

Our U14's did very well against Ardmoy on June 27th in Abbey Park, in the 1st round of Championship 4 Group A competition.  Despite losing by 3 points at half time and going behind by 6 later in the 2nd half, the lads dug deep to come out on top by 5 points.  The final score was Mayo Gaels 5:09 Ardmoy 5:04.

Having come through their Division 5 league very comfortably, this came came as a bit of a shock.  It was the fist time they encountered such a strong team, with so many danger men throughout, that they were very nearly undone.

Were it not for some sterling performances from the back line in the 1st half, and some fine finishing in the last quarter, it would have been a different story.

Next weeks encounter away to Moy Davitts should prove just as challenging, but this team are used to winning now and it will take a good side to topple them.

Mayo Gaels Team; Darren McGurrin, Luke Galagher, Conor Jordan, Sean Keane, Aaron Commons, Cathal Heneghan, John Gallagher (3:02), James Jennings (1:01), Sean Joyce (1:00), Ronan Commons (0:04), Patrick Morris, Owen Duggan (0:02), Colin Ruane, Phelim Prendergast.
