[06/05/14] Mayo Gaels reach U16 League Final after semi-final win against Islandeady….

Mayo Gaels defeated Islandeady by 9:11 to 8:03 in the Division 3 semi-final played in a wet and windy Islandeady on Tuesday the 6th of May.

In a game played in difficult underfoot condition Mayo Gaels put on a good display of fast, attacking football and a noticeable feature of the game was the excellent interplay and movement of the Gaels lads.

Mayo Gaels had a great start to the match when John Gallagher scored a fine goal in the fourth minute. The Gaels proceeded to take charge of the game and with two further goals from the impressive Francis Regan had established a thirteen point lead at half time (Mayo Gaels 3:07, Islandeady 1:00).

A stunned Islandeady upped their performance after the interval and on several occasions scored goals by sending direct ball into their hard working full-forward line.  Mayo Gaels however were always in control and throughout the second half finished off several good passing moves with well taken scores.

Fintan McGurrin, Ross Burke, Liam Hughes, Kevin Kenna and Francis Regan impressed in what was a great team display by Mayo Gaels.

Mayo Gaels now play Charlestown in the Division 3 League Final (date/time to be confirmed). The Gaels lads were well worth their semi-final victory and should, by tightening up the defence, be reasonable confident of acquitting themselves well on the final.
