Eoin wins GAA Cul Camp "Star of the future" in Football for Claremorris Cul Camp 2010
Winners of the GAA Cul Camp "Star of the future" in Football for Claremorris Cul Camp 2010 was Eoin Duggan, Mayo Abbey together with David Gannon (Hurling) and Niamh Brennan (Ladies football) who were presented with their Certificates and Mayo Jersey from members of the Mayo Senior Panel in McHale Park on 2nd May 2011.

Deaths are a common thing at this time of year and the community of Mayo Abbey have had more than their share over the past month.  We extend our sympathies the families and relations of the following;
The death took place in early December in London of John Swan, husband of the late Nora Browne, Barnageggaun. Sympathy is extended to his brothers-in-law, James and Peter Browne, Mayo Abbey.
The death also took place of Noreen Browne, Barnageggaun. Sympathy is extended to hers sons, James and Peter Browne, Mayo Abbey. Daughters, Angela, Mary, Margaret, Patricia, Veronica, in England. She was predeceased by her daughter Nora and her son Ger.
In January the deaths took place of Mae King, Portagh. Sympathy is extended to her husband Michael. Son Michael, Daughters, Marian, Norita, Rosaline.  She was predeceased by her daughter Deirdre Ralph.  
The death took place of Nellie Joyce Foxford, formerly Nellie Maguire, Rathduff. Sympathy is extended to her nephews Ger Maguire, Ardcorkey, Tom Maguire, Portagh and her niece Mary Joyce, Coolmeen.
Also Jimmy Fahy, Ballindine, Husband of Kathleen Lavin, Facefield.  Brother of Tom Fahy, Cullentragh. Brother-in-law of Annie Mae Regan, Ballinlough, Josie Jordan, Facefield. 
Also John Prendergast, England and Clogher, husband of Teresa McGurrin, Weatherfort. Brother–in-law of Michael McGurrin. Weatherfort.
The death took place of Molly King Cruck, and also of Ted Conway, Castlebar late of Bridgemount, Belcarra. 
The death has taken place suddenly of Ann Halligan, Harefield. Sympathy is extended to her husband Patsy. Her brothers Martin, Mike, John and her sister Bridie.  
The death also took place of Gerald McNamara, Claremorris. Formerly of Dromody. Sympathy is extended to his nephew Joe McNamara, Dromody.  
We also extend our Sympathies to Tom Donoghue, Ardcorkey on the death of his sister, Mae Connor, Ahascragh, Ballinasloe.  To Geraldine Brennan, Monard on the death of her mother, Delia Delaney, Ballinrobe .  May They Rest in Peace.

As we approached Christmas the wait by the families and relations of the Mayo Abbey schoolchildren comes to an end with the publication of the school’s Christmas calendar and cards made by the pupils.  This has been a busy period as they put their art & drawing classes to practical use while coping with their school lessons.  Both are on sale locally or through the school. It is €5 for the calendar and €5 for a pack of 8 Cards. This is a souvenir that no doubt will be sent to all the relations especially grannies and granddads.

As recession times are creeping in Mayo Gaels GAA club is offering new options to make it easier for members to join this coming year. The club would like to thank all the 119 people who registered with the club last year.  Registration fees are one of the most important sources of fundraising for the club and all members of the community are encouraged to register. Being part of a thriving and progressive local organization is just one of the many benefits.  Membership also gives you regular email and text updates on all that’s happening around the club. Full adult membership and yearly lotto ticket €100. Coming soon the opportunity to play the lotto by Standing Order from your bank account.  There are three dates for collection of membership. 1) Bord na nOg AGM Friday Jan 14th at 20:00 in the clubhouse. 2) Next club meeting on Thursday Jan 27th at 21:00 in the clubhouse. 3) The Bord na nOg Presentation evening on Sunday Feb. 13th in the Resource Centre, Mayo Abbey. 

Flanagan Cup Semi-Finals is on Sunday 20th Feb. Flanagan Cup Finals is on Sunday 27th Feb. 

2011 Calendars now available for just €5 from committee members or the on-line shop at www.mayogaels.com. Look out for "Gaels Giveaways" over the coming weeks.  Merchandise shop has a new line of Hoodies, Jackets and Jerseys and will be running a series of offers to clear out old stock.

A series of five one-day Organic Growing Courses will be run in Mayo Abbey organic centre on Saturdays starting on March 5th, Getting started – planning site, propagation, seed sowing, planting times.
March 12, Ground preparation, getting to know your soil, improving fertility, composting methods.
March 19, Growing in polytunnels (greenhouse) getting the most from your tunnel.  Best crops and varieties to grow.
March 26, Organic pest & disease control and weed control, rotations, Green manures.
April 2nd Herb growing, propagation, growing conditions for most popular herbs – their uses.

Organic Food FETAC Level 4 starting 1st February running for 10 days over 4 months;

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place every Thursday in Mayo Abbey Church from after 10-00 morning Mass till 4-00p.m. Why not come and spend an hour with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.
